A federal court in Hawaii ruled in mid-July that the Department of Homeland Security may not apply the travel ban to grandparents, grandchildren and certain other family members of persons in the United States. The Trump Administration appealed the ruling to the Ninth Circuit and may ultimately seek Supreme Court review.
Premium Processing for Certain H-1B Petitions
USCIS announced it will resume premium processing for certain H-1B petitions. Specifically, H-1B petitions filed by institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations related to institutions of higher educated, nonprofit research organizations and governmental research organizations may resume use of premium processing.
Bipartisan Dream Act Introduced in the House of Representatives
Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) introduced the House version of the Dream Act of 2017. The proposed legislation would provide individuals who arrived in the U.S. as children the chance to apply for lawful permanent resident (“Green Card”) status if they meet certain requirements.
